Year 10 Citizens UK Presentation Workshop
Students experienced a Citizens UK workshop with
Year 10 geographers last term. Please see the other article on details of this
event. This has focused on parts of the curriculum relating to ‘Theme 1:
Challenges in the Built Environment’ at GCSE. This experience was invaluable to
our 15 students who participated as they had an opportunity to voice their thoughts
on the housing regeneration in Thamesmead with Peabody Housing Association.
The students on Monday 25th April will
present on integrating ideas for the regeneration and sustainability of the Thamesmead
area to a panel of judges; Mr Winston, Mrs Bryan, a Citizens UK representative
and Greenwich’s local MP Theresa Pearce. The teams have been divided into
classes and asked to speak about the following topics:
·
Ms Gaffney’s class: Creating a new commercial economy in Abbey Wood – Shopping districts.
·
Mr Davis’ class: Sustainable
estates.
·
Mr O’Nullain’s class: Sustainable and affordable intergenerational communities.
·
Mrs Cooper’s class: Sustainable communal spaces in Southmere Lake.
To aid
the teams in preparing for the competition, a renowned lecturer Alberto Galindo
from Ravensborne College helped prepare the students through a workshop on
presentation skills. The students commended both Alberto and Citizens UK representative
for their guidance on presentation skills and the elements of the success
criteria. The teams are relishing the challenge that awaits them next week.
With the prospect of the winners heading to a three hour aerial assault course
at Go Ape who wouldn’t be inspired?!
